Sejahtera: The context of balancing

Bismillah, In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Today I want to write a reflection on the speech of Professor Tan Sri Dato Dzulkifli Abdul Razak about Sejahtera . For your information, he is our university rector. From his speech, I totally agree with what the talked. He said that Sejahtera means prosperity. Since 2001, he introduced 'Kampus Sejahtera' in USM. The aim of the program is to bring the concept of the holistic living in environment which student can learn to live with nature in a balance living and sustainable living. He emphasizes that to understand the concept of Sejahtera, it is not necessarily through lectures or assignments but through live with it. People actually need to practice the concept of Sejahtera, not only learn it theoretically. To practice it, for surely need a platform. So, that is why this program created. When we live with nature and also learn about it holistically in a balance way, we can feel the nature around us. He s...

Sejahtera and Role of Universities in SDG

Bismillah, In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. In our third lesson of UNGS 1201 , we learn about Sejahtera. What is sejahtera? Literally it means peace, harmony and prosperity or in malay, 'Aman dan Makmur', 'Senang dan Tenteram' or 'Terpelihara daripada bencana'.  Sejahtera is more associated with the practise of having a balanced well being or even co-existing with common shared values and prosperity. It is implied that the achievement of quality of life that is both sustainable as well as balanced is embodies in sejahtera as a way of life. (By Prof Tan Sri Dzulkifli Abdul Razak) We learn about IIUM Insan Sejahtera. It have 4 elements which are IIICE(Integrity, Internalisation, Islamisation, Comprehensive, Excellent), Falsafah Pendidikan Negara, Maqasid Syariah and Sustainable Development Goals. The objective is to humanising education and developing intellectuals, professionals and scholars of distinction by integrating quality of fa...

Islam and Sustainable Development

Bismillah, In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. In our second lesson of UNGS 1201 , we learn about the missing component in SDG. From all the goals in SDG, we notice that spirituality is not included. However, actually spirituality is very important in order to fulfilling sustainability. This is because, religion is very important to human. Why? Because with religion, we can see our life’s meaning and purpose. As we can see, Korea is one of the best healthcare in the world according to OECD. Hearing that, the first thing came to my thought is, Korea must be the country that have lowest rate of problem regarding health either mental illness or physical illness. However, it is not. Korean is on the top for the suicide rate. Then, I realized that without spirituality, we may not think twice of what we want to do. As a muslim, we know that Islam prohibit suicide and who commit suicide is actually commit a major sin. So, we can see that with religion, we will kn...

Bismillah, In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.   Today I will share with all of you what i have learnt in my first UNGS 1201 lesson . Actually, at first, I have no idea of what is this subject's about, what I will learn in this subject, why we need to take this subject and so on. So during the pre-reg, I just randomly choose the section that my friend suggest to me or what my hand choose. Of course because I don't know how to used it. But, suddenly my another friend said that her senior suggest if you are an engineering student, it is better to choose the lecturer from Kuliyyah of Engineering (KOE). Since Dr 'Atiah is my mahallah's fellow, I choose to join her class.   Amazing. This is one word from me to describe her class. I admire how she make our class livelier and more interesting. For me, the way she teach, make me understand more about what we learnt.   From our first lesson, I learnt about three concept in sustainabil...
